Theo's Steak & Seafood

By Rick A. Richards

HIGHLAND, Ind. – Whether you want an intimate evening of dining or you want to entertain 100 of your closest friends, Theo’s Steak & Seafood is the place to go.

Owner Peter Klideris, who has owned Theo’s for six years, has been around the restaurant business nearly his entire life. His father has owned Ted’s, a fine dining restaurant in Calumet City, Ill., for 25 years.

Klideris grew up in Orland Park, Ill., and after graduating from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Klideris and his father began looking for an Indiana location. At about the time they began looking, the space in Highland opened up along busy Indianapolis Boulevard and the family sealed the deal.

“The key in the restaurant business is interacting with people every day,” says Klideris. “I love to cook and we’re always trying to create new dishes. What I especially like about this place is being my own boss.”

Klideris says he wants his restaurant to be known for serving “the finest steaks and chops with an array of the freshest seafood, chicken and pasta.” It’s a tall order, but one Klideris says he wants to fill.

He says Theo’s is probably best known for its bone-in rib eyes. “They’re aged 20 days before they’re served, and they’re our most popular steak,” Klideris says. “Our fish is brought in fresh daily.” He says the freshness of the ingredients of his menu items is what helps set Theo’s apart from other steakhouses.

From the bar, Klideris says Theo’s most popular drink is the Bellini, which is made from vodka, champagne, peach nectar and pineapple. He brought the concoction to Theo’s after coming across a similar drink while on a trip to Florida.

“We’re all about family here,” says Klideris of his staff of 15. “We all try to provide the best service we can. What I like about what we’ve done is the family atmosphere. I think other steak houses are more corporate in their approach. From the time you enter to the time you leave, we’ll have someone standing by to take care of you.”

Part of the family atmosphere of Theo’s is its effort to give back to the community.  Klideris says he and the restaurant are involved in many community events because it’s the right thing to do. ?

Theo’s is at 9144 Indianapolis Blvd., in Highland.
