Deezeyener Jewelry & Gifts

Unique, affordable and hand crafted

One of these days, visitors to Lori Thomas’s jewelry store will be able to watch her make her unique jewelry. But until she can move into a larger location (her store occupies just 100 square feet), visitors will have to be satisfied with looking at the finished product.

Thomas owns Deezeyener Jewelry in downtown Crown Point. She loves making and designing jewelry. Her basement at home is her studio, and it’s crammed with everything she needs to make her hand-crafted jewelry.

“I think the creativity of the business is what I like the best,” says Thomas. “I think the people who stop by the store realize they can get a lot of bang for their buck. Half of my items are one-of-a-kind, affordable, and hand-crafted.”

For instance, Thomas says most of the earrings in her inventory are $9.95, with the most expensive priced at $19.95. Her bracelets range from $20 to $22, and her necklaces range from $22 to $60.

“That’s what I have for now, but I am working on a higher-end line of products,” says Thomas, adding that she also carries a small selection of resort wear, from dresses to beach cover-ups, and a selection of pet clothing and accessories.

Thomas says she also works with customers to create special orders and will do jewelry repair.

“I think people are looking for unique places like this. They get tired of the crowds at the mall, so they look for shops where they can find something different,” says Thomas.

Designing jewelry, says Thomas, is her creative outlet. “I’ve never had a job where I could express my creativity except this one.” Her full-time job is as a clerk at U.S. Steel in Gary, and Thomas says someday she’d like to get into the jewelry design business full-time. She’s been designing jewelry for eight years, ever since attending Ball State University to study interior design. She opened her tiny store in the Old Courthouse in downtown Crown Point on May 1, 2009.

“I’ve always been a crafter, and I’ve done all kinds of things. I know this is an artsy look that doesn’t appeal to all people, but I like doing it.”

In the future, Thomas would like to become a wholesaler shipping her jewelry to customers all over the world. It’s a dream for now, but one she says she’s working hard to achieve. ?
